In Person Connections
There’s something special about meeting people face-to-face. I’ve been reflecting on how powerful it is to connect in person – properly connect, not just in passing, but in a way that sparks real conversation and shared energy.
After so many years of events happening virtually, I think we appreciate even more the opportunity to be in the same room as others when networking. There’s an energy to it that just doesn’t translate online. More often than not, these in-person moments lead to the most unexpected and perfectly timed connections, conversations that open doors, and sometimes even collaborations that wouldn’t have happened otherwise.
This past month, I spoke at Hub26, an incredible space that blends work, wellness, and community. It’s just off Junction 26 of the M62, near Leeds, and it’s fast becoming a go-to spot for local business owners looking for more than just a co-working space.
Almost 30 people, (small to medium business owners) gathered for my talk, all looking to connect, learn, and share. Standing in front of a room like that, sharing a little about the work I do, felt both exciting and familiar. It’s been a while since I delivered a talk in person (outside of teaching workshops), and I realised just how much I’ve missed it.
The energy in the room was brilliant, open, curious, and engaged. Conversations flowed, ideas sparked, and I left feeling inspired by the connections made. The feedback was so positive that it’s encouraging me to do more. It was also a privilege to be invited as one of the first speakers for what I imagine will now be a regular business community event.
What I’ve Been Exploring and Enjoying This Month
Reading:
The Anxious Generation by Jonathan Haidt
I’ve just started this book, but already I’m fascinated by the insights. It explores how the digital world has rewired childhood and led to a rise in mental health challenges. From a subconscious programming perspective, it’s particularly interesting to consider how early experiences shape our beliefs and emotional resilience.
Listening:
The Tim Ferris Show – Episode 787 – Guided Meditation with Zen Master Henry Shukman (15 mins)
A short and simple meditation I stumbled across recently. A lovely reminder to take time to be present and that you don’t need much time to do it either.
Watching:
TED Talk: How to know your life’s purpose in 5 minutes – Adam Leipzig
While prepping for my Hub26 talk, I found this gem. It reminded me of the brilliant formula we use in the PSYCH-K® Master Facilitation workshop to create our ‘Core Connection Statement.’ A great tool for answering that age-old question: ‘So, what do you do?’
Behind the Scenes
Since my last update, I’ve been up in Glasgow, teaching a foundational PSYCH-K® Basic workshop. What a group! As always, we had a mix of laughter, deep insights, and those incredible ‘aha’ moments that make this work so rewarding. It never ceases to amaze me how quickly people bond during a PSYCH-K® workshop – strangers on day one, deeply connected by day three.
